Jesus' Touch Praise Dance from Jocelyn Richard on Vimeo.
In Jesus's parable of the lost son. As the father saw his Son returning home he called a celebration.
At that celebration the father commissioned music and dance. The dance is a biblical response to redemption, love and reconciliation. Let us dance the dance of redemption
Luke 15:20-25 20
And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
21And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
22But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
23And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:
24For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
25Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing.

Worship praise dance ministry leaders, should have a solo ready to minister at a moment’s notice. This solo should be well choreographed, with excellent music, garments, flags, and props. Your solo should be your signature peace. Listen, if you have a solo ready, God will open doors for you , and you’ll be ready, It will be more powerful than if you’re hurrying at the last minute trying to find music, and creating choreography. Someone might call you this week and say I have an event and I just felt in my spirit that we need a dance minister and I thought of you. If you have that solo ready, you will be ready to say ‘yes’ and you will be equipped. The pastor might be teaching a sermon and he says (at a moments notice)‘well I just want one dancer to come forward to emphasis what I’m teaching in the message with a visual demonstration.' If your solo is ready, you can deliver powerful dance ministry.
1. Choose music that goes with your technical dance skill level. I advise beginning dancers to stay with short songs. Narratives, or worship choruses with a single vocalist or small vocal ensemble are best.
2.Pursue dancing with a live psalmist or vocalist. When a soloist dances accompanied by live music it can make a great impact.
3.Be aware of spacing-do not throw yourself back and forth so that your audience feels like they are watching a tennis match. A soloist’s use of spacing and direction is more simplified than a group. Use movement dynamics and choreographic tools.
4.Interact with the audience. Draw the audience in and let them worship with you. Do not make it seem as if they are looking at you from the outside. Your solo is not a time for your personal devotion. It is a time for you to give to the Lord and lead others into worship.
In the links below I share videos of two worship dance solos that I have choreographed. I pray that they are a blessing to you.

Choosing music for praise and worship dance choreography
Below is an excerpt from my ebook Phenomenal Choreography for Worship

I encourage openness and use of many music styles for worship and praise dance choreography. From a personal perspective, I have long held a preference of Sandy Patty hymns for dancing. Once at a church, a young person approached me with a request. “Sister Jocelyn,” he said, “listen to this music.” The music was that of an artist widely known as a performer with a kind of contemporary gospel music idiom. Viewing the image of the singer on the cover, through a pre-judgment I replied, “Thank you very much. Yet, within my heart, I had immediately determined not to listen to or dance to that style of music.
Months later, I found myself at a loss as to music for an upcoming dance ministry assignment. I visited Christian music stores. Nonetheless, I could not find music that spoke to me. Suddenly, I caught sight of a tape of the music that the young person had presented to me. I put aside pre-judgment and heeded the sudden desire to hear the music I had rejected listening to. I discovered the music lifted up Jesus. Instantly I realized that had I not opened myself to the music I would have passed up a blessing from the Lord who I’m sure had directed the young person and thereby enabled our paths to cross. The point is, as far as music is concerned, be open. Of itself, music is not good or bad. God created music before the world changed it in directions contrary to His intentions. Therefore, in listening to music, be attentive to be sure the lyrics point to Jesus. The music can be, Christian contemporary, worship and praise, traditional hymns or jazz. Be open and listen to the music without prejudging. Consider music suggested or offered to you by others. Always take care that the music is clearly talking about Jesus. Otherwise your search for music will be fruitless.
In the link below is that dance to Yolanda Adam's music. "Let us worship Christ the Lord." Please forgive the quality of the video. This was recorded about
20 years ago at a Christmas celebration in NYC hosted by Rev. Jackie McCullough.
